History / Mission of the Gallery
Galerie
de Stijl was created in the winter of 2007 by artist Lance Aram
Rothstein to provide an online home
for contemporary modern art. While greatly inspired by the artists of
the de Stijl movement of the early 20th Century, we also accept and
display many different styles of art. We are particularly
interested in works in the styles of de Stijl, Bauhaus, Minimalism,
Cubism, Art Deco, Mod, Pop, Op Dada, Surrealism, Abstract
and the like.
Our Permanent Collection is an
amalgam of works including artists from
around the world working in a multitude of media. Some famous, some
unknown, basically whatever struck the fancy of the curator.
Our online Library is a way of
sharing some of the other items
collected over the years. It contains rare books, magazines, museum
exhibit catalogs etc. Some have been digitized for display
online, others are merely listings for reference or suggested reading
material. They are not
avaialble for loan. Please contact the curator if you have any
questions.
Our initial goal is to have at least four juried exhibitions per year
with themes to be determined. Some will be open to artists, others will
be by invitation only. Please check our Upcoming Exhibits page for the
most current information.
Galerie de Stijl is currently an online gallery only but our aspiration
is to eventually have an actual physical gallery to house the
collection and display exhibitions. We also have plans for a magazine
to showcase the work as well. These goals will only be possible with
the support of members like you.
